Woman Found Dead Inside Burned McAllen Home

UPDATE (1/11): Investigators said 83-year-old Jeanette Hopkins was killed after her wheelchair caught fire.

The McAllen Fire Department said they found the woman on fire on the back patio.

A preliminary investigation has ruled her death accidental. They’ve ruled out any criminal intent.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

MCALLEN – Fire officials in McAllen are investigating a death and a fire that happened Tuesday afternoon.

The McAllen Fire Department is trying to figure out how an elderly woman died inside a house on Fern Avenue.

McAllen police said they responded to a call around 12:45 p.m. They said the incident was a fire.

One woman was found lifeless inside.

Police said the investigation is in the hands of the fire department.

McAllen Fire Chief Rafeal Balderas said it was some sort of accident and doesn’t suspect foul play.

Neighbors in the area said they heard at least four loud bangs, followed by screams.
