WESLACO – Residents and businesses of the Rio Grande Valley are searching for alternative energy solutions as temperatures heat up for the summer.

Jim Moore is the director of operations at a health clinic in Weslaco; he says the clinic installed solar panels nearly two years ago.

“The beauty of it is when the system is up and running it doesn't matter what they charge you. The cost of a solar system is a fixed cost. You buy it, it works,” Moore said.

A local solar energy company says since panels allow a property owner to produce their own energy, they’re not tied down by rate increases.
