WESLACO – The Rio Grande Valley is the most active area for illegal crossings in the country.

The number of people being picked up by Border Patrol is more than the agents can handle.

A spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council says the Valley sector is the easiest way to get into the country illegally.

"We're being overrun. We're being overwhelmed… We have people coming in 1,000 to 1,500 a day just in this area. Last week, I think 8,800 had come through here," says spokesman Chris Cabrera.

He says his biggest concern is those who aren’t seeking asylum due to their criminal histories.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas explains how they’re managing as their detention centers continue overflowing.
