WESLACO – The Department of Homeland Security is requesting 300 more troops be sent to the border.

The troops could be placed in roles which would place them in direct contact with detained migrants, such as driving the buses and providing them with meals.

The request also includes using Department of Defense lawyers to help them with processing.

On Friday, more concertina wire was being installed at the Progreso International Bridge; so far troops have not had any interactions with migrants.
