DPS and TxDOT team up for ‘End the Streak’ campaign
The Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Department of Transportation are teaming up to reduce the amount of crashes in the area.
More than 91,000 Texans were killed in crashes since Nov. 7, 2000, officials from both departments announced in a Friday news conference.
According to both agencies, 77 people have died in the Rio Grande Valley due to traffic crashes since January 1, 2025.
"It’s devastating thinking of all the families and communities that have lost loved ones in the last 25 years,” TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said in a statement. “It’s time to end this deadly streak, but it’ll take all of us to do it. We can engineer improvements. Law enforcement can patrol roads. And everyone needs to drive like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe, to prevent crashes.”
In an effort to promote safety on the road, the campaign “#EndTheStreakTX” was unveiled.
During traffic stops for the next two weeks, DPS troopers will hand out a tip card listing safe driving behaviors that reflect the top causes of crashes.
TxDOT is asking drivers to participate in the campaign by driving safe speeds, buckling up, getting a sober ride, avoid distractions, and move over or slow down for vehicles with flashing lights on the side of the road.
