Family of slain Donna High School student speaks out after mistrial declared
The trial for a Rio Grande Valley murder suspect is starting over after a judge declared a mistrial on Friday.
The family of Isaiah Castillo has waited five years for this trial, and they're ready to move forward and hopefully get justice.
While time has passed, they say they haven't forgotten the little things about him.
Isaiah was 18 years old when he was found shot near Donna Lake. Carlos Julian Contreras is charged in his death.
While the wait isn't over, his sister Aliza Martinez says the family still has hope.
"I'm feeling confident. We trust our attorneys with this whole process, and overall, we believe we are going to get justice for him," Aliza said.

Justice could come as soon as next week.
Hidalgo County District Attorney Terry Palacios explained the case isn't over, but the trial will just start from the beginning.
"A mistrial could've been done with prejudice, which means we couldn't try it again. [The judge] did not grant a mistrial with prejudice, but without, therefore on Monday we're going to select a jury," Palacios said.
The defense asked the judge to declare a mistrial earlier this week. They claim prosecutors offered immunity to a witness without telling the defense.
"We have the option that everything was done appropriately, whether they grant a mistrial or not, that's not our doing, that's on the judge. She's trying to protect, she's a balance, she's trying to protect both sides," Palacios said.
Isaiah's aunt, Laura Torres, says she still remembers the last time she saw her nephew.
"The last event that we got to spend together was Christmas, and I still have that photo of him smiling. He was a giving person, a loving friend, and he had many dreams," Laura said.
One of those dreams was joining the military.
For his mother, Joanna Martinez, she has one message to the community.
"Just want to let everyone know and thank everyone who has been praying and if they can continue praying for our family and I so we can finally get justice," Joanna said.
The first jury selected for this trial was dismissed. Another set of jurors are scheduled to be chosen on Monday, followed by opening statements.
