An unaccompanied veteran was laid to rest Thursday in Mission.

Dozens of people gathered at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery to say goodbye to United States Air Force Sgt. Marc Alan Jones.

Jones was buried with full honors, complete with a 21-gun salute.

“This is the last honor that we give to our veterans that deserve this honor for what they served,” Jose Cruz Yañez said. “We do have their backs. We're all veterans and we're all brothers in arms here."

Burial services like these are provided for all veterans who have no family present.

Unaccompanied veteran burials are paid for by the Veterans Land Board.
