MCALLEN – A former McAllen police officer is out on bond following his court hearing Monday.

Ricardo Ruiz is accused of attempting to steal a car by extortion, and pretending to be a DEA agent and lying about it.

Ruiz used to be a DEA agent from 2014 to 2017.
