SAN BENITO – People in San Benito say a foul odor persists in their neighborhood.

It’s not the first time CHANNEL 5 NEWS has reported on the strong smell of sewage that’s plaguing residents in the area of Bowie and Ballenger streets.

A woman says she’s concerned about the toxic fumes her elderly mother may be exposed to. She says the stench is affecting her quality of life.

Martha McClain, spokeswoman for the city of San Benito, says city crews discovered a sewer blockage was causing the bad smell. She says they will look into the issue again.

She says residents are encouraged to report issues to the city as soon as they can.
