HARLINGEN – More bed space is becoming available for migrants released from federal custody.

Volunteers at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen are preparing to take people in.

The church is preparing to take in anywhere from 50 to 80 people per night.

The church opened its doors since Border Patrol chose to drop off migrants at the bus station in Harlingen.

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities to find out more.

She says last week Catholic Charities took in as many as 900 people a day.

"This week the numbers are quite lower – almost half as low. And yet, Border Patrol is dropping them off at different bus stations. So we needed to quickly respond,” she explains.
