Investigation into Missing Harlingen Lawyer Continues
HARLINGEN – Investigators are still waiting for phone and bank records to help them track down a Harlingen attorney who’s been missing for nearly three months.
Harlingen Police Commander Carlos Cantu said although they requested that information weeks ago, Ernesto Gonzales’ banks and phone carrier haven’t been quick to respond.
Gonzales went missing back on July 17. His law office, located on F Street, has remained open.
Police have looked through the office several times, but haven’t found any evidence that a crime has been committed.
Gonzales’ family has been cooperative, but police say leads from the community have stopped.
“What makes it hard is the unanswered questions and the lack of evidence. I think that those things we’re waiting on, those transaction records with the credit cards and phone records, will tell us a lot. So it’s just frustrating knowing that we could have the answers, but we’re waiting on somebody else to give us the information that we’re asking for,” said Cantu.
Cantu added any client who's retained Gonzales as their lawyer and has an issue with his failure to provide services would have to seek a civil case against him.
