MCALLEN –Thousands of Rio Grande Valley families are temporarily displaced after their homes were left flooded by recent heavy storms.

But help is coming in the form of sales and customers like Samuel Ramos. On Thursday, he visited his local Habitat for Humanity home improvement store.

He says he doesn’t just go there to save money; he believes in the mission.

“The beauty of the restore is we take donated material that may otherwise go to a landfill and we resell it to the public at a discount price,” says Wayne Lowry, executive director for Habitat for Humanity Rio Grande Valley.

The non-profit’s purpose is building homes for low-income families at no charge.

Rows of merchandise at the store fund those projects. The McAllen restore shop is the number one fundraising outlet for the organization.

For the next two weeks, services here are expanding.
