The DEA and local law enforcement agencies are doing their part to stop prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands.

Saturday, several prescription drug take back events took place across the Rio Grande Valley.

They aimed to keep drugs, like opioids, from contributing to the deadly epidemic across the country.

Rudy Maldonado, the Assistant Special Agent in Charge for DEA in the Rio Grande Valley, said prescriptions are one of the most abused drugs.

Residents who couldn't make it out to this weekend's event can check with the Hidalgo County District Attorney's office for year-round drop-off locations.
