EDINBURG – With free diabetes screening going on around the Rio Grande Valley, we wanted to show you just how simple it is to get tested.

We took a trip to Dr. Monzer Yazji’s office in Edinburg to demonstrate how easy it is to get a glucose test.

“It’s just a prick. It’s a little sample that we take from your finger and we can know what your blood sugars are running today,” says Nurse Claudia.

It’s as simple as pricking your finger and dropping the blood onto the test strip. Five seconds later, you have your blood glucose reading.

A normal person who’s fasted should be somewhere between 70 and 100 mg/dL. A person who’s diabetic will show an 80 to 130 mg/dL.

We’re told it’s good to take the test after you haven’t eaten for a while, but it’s not required.

If you want to get your glucose level tested, Dr. Yazji’s team will be running free tests until 10 p.m. Wednesday in Edinburg and throughout next week.
