Rate increase planned for East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation customers
More than 32,000 people who are customers of the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation will see an increase in their water bill starting in Dec. 2025.
As the water corporation’s general manager, Brian Macmanus said households use about 6,000 gallons of water per month on average. This leads to a monthly bill of $62 that will soon go up.
“[A] rate study is underway now. We don't know the level of the rate increase, but we should know after mid-October,” Macmanus said.
According to Macmanus, the increase is needed to help pay off debt accumulated from water projects.
“We want to secure the supply for the future for our members so when they open the tap, their water comes out,” Macmanus said.
According to Macmanus, the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation is working on several projects that look below the surface for alternative water sources.
The corporation is looking at about $58 million in debt, with many loans having a 30-year deadline to pay up, Macmanus said.
Macmanus said the rate increase could bring an extra $2 million in revenue per year.
