RAYMONDVILLE – A Raymondville woman will spend nearly two years in prison after being convicted in a failed human smuggling attempt involving a child.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says Melissa Grimaldo, 42, used her own daughter’s social security card and information to try to smuggle a girl from Mexico into the U.S.

Grimaldo said she was paid $2,000 to smuggle her into the country.
