WESLACO – Rio Grande Valley hospitals are working with the federal government for the potential arrival of a caravan.

Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol and military officials met with medical professionals this week.

A South Texas Health System spokeswoman says all hospitals are under the direction of federal authorities regarding this matter.

“Rio Grande Regional Hospital is an advanced Level III trauma facility with a dedicated team of health professionals equipped and prepared to treat any influx of patients that present to the hospital for emergent care.

We are required by law to treat any person who presents at the hospital in an emergent situation. Multiple teams and protocols are in place, as always, and will be implemented if necessary.”
