Rio Grande City Grulla ISD is inviting the community to help them provide meals to families in need this Thanksgiving.

The district announced their “stuff the bus” campaign. The district said they’re collecting Thanksgiving meal items to provide at least 60 Thanksgiving baskets for families.

The baskets will be created by students.

“We can teach academics every single day all day long, but this event teaches our students heart,” district superintendent Guadalupe Garza said. “It shows our students that leadership means serving others, and that's a lesson that lasts a lifetime."

The district said their family and community engagement department will identify the families in need. 

Items can be dropped off on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Peter Piper Pizza in Rio Grande City and the Border Town grocery store from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
