The UTRGV volleyball team is set to host the Southwest Showdown tournament beginning on Thursday against Texas State.

Then, the Vaqueros take on UTEP the following day. Both opponents participated in the NCAA tournament last year.

These two games are the first home matches for UTRGV this season after competing in the GCU Invitational in Arizona last weekend, where the Vaqueros finished with a 1-2 record over the three games.

Vaqueros head coach Todd Lowery mentioned that he wants to see more consistency from his team in this upcoming tournament.

"I think we've got to limit our mistakes," Coach Lowery said. "I think we gave away a lot of points over the course of the weekend and also left a lot of points on the board. I think right now, how do we bring our errors down and play a little bit more consistent? We've got to find a little bit more offense somewhere. Obviously Martina [Franco] had a great weekend, but we need somebody else to step up to get some consistent points.”

The matches against Texas State and UTEP are set for 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
