The La Joya ISD Police Department gathered on Friday to celebrate the life and service of its beloved K-9, Lucky.

A news release from the school district described Lucky as a loyal companion, steadfast protector and symbol of courage whose service left an unforgettable mark on the district and community he served.

Lucky was 6-years-old when he died on Sept. 16.

“Lucky served the La Joya ISD Police Department with unwavering commitment, courage and compassion,” the district said in a statement. “Lucky was more than a working dog — he was a guardian who brought comfort and reassurance to the students and staff he protected. Whether patrolling school grounds, attending community events, or greeting students in the halls, Lucky’s presence represented safety, loyalty, and love.

K-9 Officer Christian Rosales was Lucky’s devoted handler.

“More than my partner, Lucky was my best friend,” Rosales said. “He never hesitated when it came to his duty - he just gave his all every single day. Knowing he protected our students and loved this community as much as I do is something I will carry with me forever.”
