Students Evacuated after Fire at IDEA School in McAllen

MCALLEN – Authorities are investigating a small fire at the IDEA Tres Lagos Elementary School in McAllen.

It happened Friday morning at the location just off Ware Road, south of Monte Cristo Road.

Fire officials told CHANNEL 5 NEWS they believe the fire was intentionally started in a hallway on the second floor, but wasn’t large enough to trigger the sprinkler system.

Some students were treated as a precaution for smoke inhalation, but no one was reported harmed.

All students and staff were taken to the IDEA Quest campus on Russell Road and 29th Street.

Fire investigators are currently on the scene.

IDEA Public Schools released the following statement:

"At IDEA Public Schools, the safety of our students and staff is a top priority. This morning, there was a small fire on the second floor of IDEA Tres Lagos. Students and staff evacuated swiftly and safely and there were no injuries. All students and staff were transported to IDEA Quest for the remainder of the day. We have been in communication with all families."
